Viola Onyx Cloche Board

The board is cut from a single piece of onyx — warm beige-cream ground with large, irregular brown and taupe inclusions across the surface. The edge is scalloped: rounded lobes cut around the full perimeter. A clear glass cloche sits on top, domed, with a solid rounded knob at the apex.

At a weekend lunch on a wide kitchen island, the board comes out with the cloche already on — cheese inside, the stone surface visible around the scalloped edge, sitting against whatever else is arranged around it. The cloche comes off at the table, not before, the knob the only thing that moves.

Onyx is a porous stone that responds quickly to moisture, acids, and prolonged contact with food — the serving surface should be wiped clean promptly after use and kept dry between settings. The glass cloche requires gentle handling; sudden temperature changes will stress the glass.

• Wipe the stone board with a soft, dry cloth immediately after use.
• Keep acidic foods — citrus, vinegar-dressed dishes, soft cheeses with high moisture — from sitting directly on the stone surface for extended periods.
• Do not submerge the stone board in water — hand-wipe only.
• Clean the glass cloche with warm water and a soft cloth — do not place in a dishwasher.
• Do not expose the glass cloche to sudden temperature changes — move from cold to room temperature gradually.
• Apply a food-safe stone sealer to the board every 6–12 months to protect the surface.
• Store the cloche off the board when not in use to prevent moisture from collecting at the join.
